Notes from the Lt. Governor Education & Training
Lillian Cooke, DTM
As the District 27 Lt. Gov. Education & Training, I have three (3) things on my mind right now. First is the District 27 Spring Conference, second educational and leadership awards, and third the upcoming Toastmasters Year (July 1, 2008 thru June 30, 2009).
First, the District 27 Spring Conference is almost here, and I am so excited. I hope you are excited, too. The cost of registration is a little higher than previous conferences but there are a few extra things that we need to cover with this being a holiday weekend and an International President's Visit.
The Toastmasters International President, DTM Chris Ford, will be here to celebrate with us. It is a rare opportunity, indeed, to meet a sitting International President. There are over 90 Districts world-wide so a President can only visit a few per year. Chris will conduct a plenary session right after lunch.
The educational sessions: Paul Lawrence Vann, author of Living on Higher Ground, is a Toastmaster and will talk to us about communication. Sandra Coles-Bell of ColesBell, Etc. will present a session on Leadership. And the three International Director Candidates from Region VII (D27 is a part of Region VII) will discuss their vision and goals for the future of Toastmasters International.
Register now to attend. The cost is only $125 for a day of learning, contests, fun, networking, food, etc.
Second, we have several incentives for you.
- Triple Crown - achieve two leadership awards and one educational award or two educational awards and one leadership award and you will be a Triple Crown winner. You will receive recognition at the Hall of Fame (Fall 2008 conference (and maybe the Spring 2008 if the Triple Crown is achieved early enough)) and you will receive a purple Triple Crown ribbon.
- Distinguished by April 30: When your clubs achieves 5 or more goals by April 30th, the District will present a $25 gift certificate at the Spring Conference during the Hall of Fame segment.
Third, looking forward we are putting together the District team that will support the members of District 27 for the upcoming Toastmasters Year. There are lots of "out front" positions and "behind the scenes" positions to fill. If you want to be a part of something dynamic (a District planner or leader), send me an email at d27lget at d27tm.org.
