Welcome
Heath Suddleson, DTM
District 27 Governor
Welcome to the 2007-2008 Toastmasters year in District 27. We have had many successes in the past years and I expect the year ahead to hold many more successes. Our District Staff has been working hard since May to devise plans and put them into action. Our mission is to serve you and your clubs.
Our theme this year is Ideas, Enthusiasm, and ACTION! Just like Hollywood has lights, camera, action as its version of Ready, Set, Go! we have our own version. The theme comes from the premise that everything starts with an idea. Whether it is an idea for a new program or an idea on ways to improve what we do already. I envision a District in which everyone's ideas are given full consideration. No one should be discounted. It is that steady stream of fresh ideas that will shape our future.
Enthusiasm is the next key ingredient. It's not enough to just have an idea and then not get behind it. We need energy, we need excitement, we need enthusiasm. The more enthusiasm you have behind your ideas has a direct relationship on how successful you will be in reaching your goals. It will make all the difference when you are trying to get others to buy in to your plan or idea. I would like to see everyone take ownership of our Clubs, Areas, Divisions, and District. This is your District and you should have an impact.
Of course, all of this means nothing without action. Ideas plus Enthusiasm equals good intentions. Ideas plus enthusiasm, plus action equals results. Your mission is to help generate ideas and enthusiasm. The mission of our District Officers is to help you generate the action. Of course, you will have to pull along with the crew. We can't do it for you, but we can help you get it done.
Pulling together we will all achieve great things in the coming year. Many of you will earn your Competent Communicator award and reach your first milestone in your Toastmasters journey. Many of you will earn Advanced Communicator awards and reach other milestones in your Toastmasters journey. Some of you will even earn your Distinguished Toastmaster Award and join us in the hug line at the District Conferences. I hope that all of you will invite your friends, family, and colleagues to join Toastmasters so that they, too, can get the benefits of the program in which you have chosen to participate.
I look forward to working with each of you in the coming year to help you reach your goals. If there is anything I can do for you, please do not hesitate to ask.
Yours in Toastmasters,
