3/1/2008 - Maintenance of the web site was smoothly transitioned from Jeff and Donna Gordon to Wes Rogers. Wes is managing the site under direction of the new District Public Relations Officer, Mike Schultz. In addition to managing the site according to the design and standards put in place by Jeff and Donna, we are also planning the enhancements to the site for the next Toastmasters year.

7/1/2006 - Jeff and Donna Gordon were asked by the District Governor, Aref Dajani, to resume managing the website. Changes when the site went live included:

  • All content prior to 7/1/2005 had been removed by the previous PRO. We resurrected all the pages.
  • Added any relevant content from the 71/2005 - 6/30/2006 webmaster.
  • Converted the website from a combination of shtml, ASP, and ASP.Net V1 to ASP.Net V2.
  • Swtiched from using Dreaweaver Templates on the PC to ASP.Net V2 MasterPages on the server.
  • Switched from a Javascript (Overlib) left Nav Bar to ASP.NET V2 Menu Control.
  • Completely redid the look and feel of the site.
  • Added a right column for "hot" news.
  • Features built into the MasterPage include Breadcrumbs, Menu based on the standard ASP.Net V2 SiteMap, Atomz Search box in the right column, ChangeDetection capability built into the right column.

7/1/2005 - The responsibility of the site was assumend by the new District 27 Public Relations Officer.

After 4 years, Jeff and Donna Gordon no longer are the webmasters.

8/2004 - Began database-enabling the site using aspx. Initial pages are:

  • Club Listing Section: Clubs by Number, Clubs by Name, Clubs by Area, Club Websites
  • District Info: Contact Us; Contact Area Governors
  • Recognition Section: DTMs, Distinguished Clubs, Distinguished Clubs (Prior Years).
1/22/2004 - Updated the page, Hints on Creating Club Web Sites to include as many ideas as I have on club websites. This is also being used for me to teach a TLI seminar on Creating a Club Website.
1/22/2004 - In the left navigation area, added the Create A Club Website link to the Website Info section and added the List of Club Websites to the List Of Clubs section.
1/11/2004 -We added a District FAQ and How Do I ... page in the Resources section. This will include any questions/answers, forms, links, or contact information that District Officers want to provide to members or that we believe members want answered. Phase I is a laundry list of items. Phase II will be to organize it better. Contact the webmasters if you have additions to this page.
10/18/2003 - Previously, we had a District newsletter article on How To Find Information On the District Website. We've had it on the website for a long time, but never really provided a link to it. We now have a link in the left navigation bar and on the Website FAQ page in the Website Info section.
10/18/2003 - We added a Website FAQ page and expanded the left navigation bar for the Website Info section.
10/18/2003 - We added minor notes to the Contest by Date and Contest By Area pages -- being more specific about the Contest Winner and Date/Location Selection Forms. We also used CSS and DW Library files for consistency.
10/18/2003 - We added minor notes to all the Club Listings pages, indicating that we are NOT responsible for errors - instead the concerned parties should contact WHQ. We also used CSS and DW Library files for consistency.
10/11/2003 - We added a Left Navbar Link for the Club Listings.
1/5/2003 - We added a TLI FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page
8/22/2002 - We have added a list of Clubs by Cities in the District Information Section.
8/20/2002 - In the District Information Section we have added a list of Other Officers in the District to Contact.
8/07/2002 - In the Recognition Section we have added a list of Divisions and Areas who were Distinguished or better this year.
7/31/2002 - In the Recognition Section we have added a list of clubs who were Distinguished or better this year.
7/6/2002 - We have changed the Site map feature. It is now dramatically faster. Try it!
6/24/2002 - We revamped the main page to remove the pop-up menus (which I thought were exceedingly annoying). You can still access those pop-up menus from the bottom of that page, however, where they aren't nearly as annoying.
6/10/2002 - We have redone the News Page so that most items are collapsible/expandable. You expand and contract them by clicking the item (or the Folder icon next to the item). This will save screen real estate and make it easier to find items of interest.
5/23/2002 - In the District Info section we have add Lists of Clubs in the District sorted by Club Name, Club Number, and by Area/Division.
5/18/2002 - In the TLI Section we have created a Registration form so those attending TLI can zip through registration.
5/5/2002 - In the Resources Section, we have made all categories expandable/collapsible to save screen real-estate. This means that people will have much less scrolling to do. Also, there are"Expand All" and "Collapse All" options on each page.
5/5/2002 - We have completely redesigned the Resources Section. It now includes 3 pages with extensive links to other sites (primarily World Headquarters at this time). The 3 pages are Resources to Help Members, Resources to Help Clubs, and Resources to Help District Officers (especially Division and Area Governors). Each page is broken down into categories which we hope will make finding information extremely easy (much easier than the WHQ site).
5/3/2002 - On the Contest By Area page, we now list the winners of each contest. Division Governors can email us the names and we'll put them up.
4/8/2002 - Added a page of District 27 graphics to be used in print publications.
4/7/2002 - In all sections that have automated News entries, we added New indicator to show items that have been posted within the last 2 weeks. This includes the News and Contest News pages.
4/1/2002 - Added a facility that will allow you to print individual contest entries from either the Contest By Date or Contest By Area page..
3/31/2002 - Added a page of Hints on Creating Web Sites for Clubs and a page of District 27 graphics for the web.
3/17/2002 - Removed the dates from the Site Map because they don't always reflect the date that people are really interested in. Specifically, includes are not handled, and extraneous changes are not handled.
3/3/2002 - Changed the positioning of the left navigation aids. They now appear slightly more to the right, and their vertical positioning is more intelligent. On the main entry page, the behavior is somewhat different, but certainly more intelligent.
2/9/2002 - Revised the splash page to include buttons to the Contests/Conferences section and Web Site Information section.
2/3/2002 - Created a self-maintaining Site Map. This lists the files on the website according to their physical location. Bakeries it's according to physical location and not logical location, this map will be somewhat different from the Navigation Bar on the left side.
1/26/2002 - Revised the splash page to include the same navigation menu as the other pages on the site.
1/26/2002 - Added a page that is an index of the major locations in which the District and Divisions hold meetings.
1/21/2002 - Removed NetMinder from all pages. Netminder is a service that used to allow users to be notified when a page changes. However, Netminder has cancelled it's free service. If anyone knows of an alternative to this service, please let me know by using the email link at the bottom of this page.
1/1/2002 - Developed the technology to allow News items to be given start and end dates. They'll automatically be displayed every year (or any particular year) between those two dates. This will allow the website to contain more News items without the website designer having to get involved each year. Dates can also be specified to move the items into the Old News Section.
11/24/2001 - Added the first Area Governors of the Month into the Recognition Section.
11/24/2001 - Added District 27 Contest Winners in the Recognition Section.
11/24/2001 - Reorganized the site by creating a Contest/Conference Section and moving all Contest, Conference, and Convention related information from the News Section.
10/20/2001 - Made phrase searches more obvious in the Search Box on every page. Made a minor correction in the Left Navigation Bar to make it work better in non-Javascript browsers.
10/15/2001 - Created a section for the Sept 11, 2001 terrorist activities, rather than keeping it all under news. This way, in the future, we will be able to keep the information, but downplay it as appropriate.
10/12/2001 - Obtained a new domain name (www.d27tm.org) and a new non-free web hosting provider. Also, renamed files as .aspx to allow easier maintenance in the future using SSI includes.
9/24/2001 - Updated the District Conference Page.
9/17/2001 - Two Toastmasters were killed in the attack on the Pentagon. A news item was added to the News page, and emails from around the world were added into the In Memoriam page.
9/10/2001 - Added a page into the News Section for Speaking Opportunities. Listings on this page are primarily Speech Marathons and Low-Membership Clubs who are looking for additional speakers.
9/10/2001 - Added a page into the News Section for Contest Training.
9/6/2001 - In each of the major sections of the site, there is an introductory page that you were able to get to through the main index.html page or through the links at the bottom of each page. However, you couldn't get there through the left menu. I've now added an Intro link to each item in the left column. Just a minor item to make it easier to get to every page more intuitively.
9/5/2001 - Moved miscellaneous topical news from the Members section to the News & Events section. This seems more logical.
9/1/2001 - Completed Phase II of site changes.
9/1/2001 - Added NetMinder to all other pages that I felt were appropriate. The only problem with it is that the graphics may be missing from the pages if you come from the email that Netminder sends. That's because Geocities doesn't play well with other services.
8/31/2001 - Added a form for the Division and Area Governors to submit and modify their contest information to the Lt. Governor Education and Training and Webmasters.

8/29/2001 - Added NetMinder to the Conference page. Netminder is a service that allows users to be notified when a page changes. The only problem with it is that the graphics may be missing from the pages if you come from the email that Netminder sends. That's because Geocities doesn't play well with other services.

8/28/2001 - Added a Search Engine to the bottom of each page, along with links to the six main sections of the site.
8/28/2001 - Started the Special Recognition page by listing people who were recognized at the International Convention.
8/27/2001 - Added Next & Previous links to go sequentially through the Guests Section.
8/27/2001 - Converted Mission & Vision Statements from PDF to HTML
8/27/2001 - Revamped front page entirely & Added a Guest Section & a Members Section.
8/25/2001 - Site Redesign - completed Phase I.
8/21/2001 - 8/24/2001 - Added info from the International Conference, courtesy Mike Schultz amd Kathy Fox.
8/22/2001 - Added extensive Contest Resources.
